Angel 5.8: Destiny
As expected, the storyline during Sweeps is going to end up being the Shanshu Prophecy, although don't get your hopes up for a resolution. It's also going to be a flashback episode, and as I speculated, will feature the events shortly after William's vamping.
- Wesley is not in this episode, he's taken a leave of absence. The reason, apparently he killed his father in Episode Seven.
- The flashbacks begin the night that William is turned, and it looks like Juliet is going to return to reprise her role of Drusilla. (which fits with the rumors I never really could quite get a confirm on that a 'familiar face' would be appearing). Darla is also apparently on a leave of absence.
- Spike does become solid very early on in the episode, thanks to another mail delivery.
- The strange disease/madness sweeping Wolfram and Hart is attributed to Spike's solidity.
- One of Wesley's staffers, Sirk, explains what the Shanshu Prophecy is really about.
- Apparently, the universe can't deal very well with two vampires with a soul.
- In order to restore balance, one of the vampires must drink from a magic goblet.
- Before achieving Shanshu and becoming human, the vampire who drinks from the goblet will endure greate pain and torment until they save or destroy creation.
- Spike and Angel race to the location of the goblet to drink from it.
- A huge fight ensues, wherein Spike trounces Angel and drinks from the goblet.
- It was all a scam, as drinking from the goblet seemingly has no effect.
- Although things return to normal at Wolfram and Hart, Angel is shaken by the fact that Spike beat him. Not because he was physically stronger, but because he wanted it more.
Interestingly enough, a new source surfaced a few days ago that detailed pretty much the same information contained in the summary. About the only bit not covered was the fact that Juliet will be returning.
Overall, it seems to be an interesting episode, although I should think that it sounds strangely familiar to many fans of 'Ranma 1/2'. The storyline is definitely left open and will probably be picked up during February Sweeps.
