Twenty Most Recent Entries For Angel - NewsJuly 11, 2004Buffyverse Movies?
I had several people email reports that while doing an interview in Australia, James Marsters mentioned that Joss approached him about returning to the Buffyverse. Hercules at AICN also reported on this story. According to his comments, it could be as many as four made-for-television movies. Each would focus on a different character, and it's safe to assume that one of those would be Spike. If I had to guess, I would think Willow, Illyria, and Giles would be the others. Giles would make the most sense, as at least a partial story for 'Ripper' already exists. In somewhat unrelated Anthony Stewart Head news, he has signed to join the cast of 'Monarch of the Glen'. Some may recall that I have mentioned this series in the past, and while I personally feel that the show is not worth watching past Season Two, with both Anthony and Tom Baker ('Doctor Who') on the cast I may have to start again. June 25, 2004ATS: Season Four DVD Pre-Order
Amazon has put up the linkage for Angel: Season Four on DVD. The scheduled release date is September 7th. Also, as noted in one of the news stories from earlier, 'Wonderfalls' should be out on DVD in early December if all goes well. April 27, 2004ATS: Lack Of News/Spoilers
As many will have likely noticed, things have been extremely slow on the site. The main reason is that there has been very little, if any news on the spoiler front for most of the shows ('Dead Like Me' being the only exception). While I still expect a few bits of spoilage here and there for the final two episodes of 'Angel', it's likely only to going to fill in the missing blanks. In respect to the previous spoilers posted for the finale, there are bits of confirmation that continue to come in. Nothing has come out that directly refutes any of the information, so I still feel fairly confident that it's solid. I would continue to stress that there could still be some final tweaking, but everything that I've heard points to that final scene being as open as it appears. I do want to check in on the status of Television Movies, as it has been mentioned elsewhere and seems to be the current buzz in the fan community. I have not received any confirmation that we will be seeing 'Angel' in some form next year. In fact, all the information I've been hearing indicates entirely the opposite. The show is done, and there is nothing in the works to keep it going in any form. Which makes sense if you think about it. With all the attention the fans are drawing, if something was anywhere near definite, it would be officially announced. It does appear that we are going to be Buffyverse free next season. But fear not, I still have my ear to the ground. I'm hoping that shortly there will be at least some information on the fate of 'Tru Calling'. I may have some other interesting news by the end of the week, not related to any shows currently covered. I'm not going to promise anything, but it's possible I may have some information on what Hercules reported at AICN earlier today. April 23, 2004ATS/TC: Is There A Future???
MediaSharx has run a report from one of their sources, discussing the possible future of 'Angel' in tele-movie form. In addition it touches on the chances 'Tru Calling' has for a second season. They posit that 'Angel' will return in a series of six bi-monthly movies, with a possible return of Faith. Supposedly 'Tru Calling' will not be picked up for a second season. From my view, tele-movies are certainly a possibility. I can't see them being completely ruled out at this point. Greater confusion seems to exist about Tru going into another season. While there have been some rumored reports that the show has already been renewed, I personally have not heard anything through my channels to indicate this. The last bit of information that I had, was that they were waiting until they saw the impact of Jason Priestley on the ratings. Which to be honest, has been absolutely none. There are also rumors that Sky TV has offered to fund partly another season of the show, but I seem to recall something similar that floated over a month ago. It wouldn't surprise me that if some plan is in motion to continue with either movies or a limited-run of episodes, that just like before other networks will be willing to purchase the rights to re-air. Fox would more than likely recoup any cost in DVD sales anyway. But I'm still more pessimistic than optimistic. April 21, 2004ATS: Wildfeeds
Once again, there was no Wildfeed for 'Angel'. The feed has gone digital, which means that we will not have an advance look at the final few episodes. Though I would expect a reviewer copy or two may pop up at some point. For full information on what has happened and how this will affect the feeds at Angel's Acolyte, check out their site for more information. April 09, 2004ATS: Episode 19 Media Summary
Have multiple Media Releases to pass along today. The first up is for the 19th Episode of 'Angel', and we now have a title - 'Time Bomb'. "Time Bomb" (TV-14, L, V)Surprising guest-star in this episode, more than likely she will be playing the mother who is about to sign her child over to the Fell Brethren. March 28, 2004ATS: 'Underneath' Description
MediaSharx has the episode description for 'Underneath' ANGEL - "Underneath" March 27, 2004ATS/WF: News Bites
I already posted both of these stories in the news section, however I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of them. Zap2It is confirming what you may have heard on Fox last night, the next episode of 'Wonderfalls' will air this Thursday (April 1st). While stating that it's only a trial for this upcoming week, 'Wonderfalls' did snag it's best ratings when the premiere was re-aired after 'Tru Calling' a few weeks ago. Also, as mentioned earlier this week, the 'Saving Angel' campaign is still going strong. Herc over at Ain't It Cool News talks about the upcoming rally that fans are planning to hold Wednesday, March 31st. March 26, 2004ATS/BTVS: Chris Buchanan
Chris Buchanan of Mutant Enemy posted at the Bronze Beta, it's reposted below, but be sure to check out the Bronze VIP Archive. Hi, Chris Buchanan here from Mutant Enemy. Long time lurker, first time poster. March 25, 2004ATS: No Buffy For 'Angel'
TV Guide Insider is now reporting that contrary to earlier reports, Sarah Michelle Gellar will not be appearing in one of the final episodes of 'Angel'. The original intention was to have her in 'The Girl In Question' (5.20), but scheduling was part of the problem. Without a Slayer Storyline for the end, looks pretty definite that the Series Finale will be a two-parter. The final two episodes will air on May 12th and 19th. March 22, 2004ATS: Saving Angel On CNN
I was going to post earlier that the 'Saving Angel' campaign made 'Hollywood Reporter', but this is so much cooler. CNN has posted the following article on their front page - in the Top Stories section. Save 'Angel' campaign takes flight You almost have to wonder with the amount of attention this campaign has been drawing, if The WB may be having second thoughts. Also to note, the page has been updated with new postcard campaigns and other info, so be sure to check them out if you haven't been back in a while. They also have additional pictures of the Billboard. March 12, 2004ATS: Rumors
I've been getting a lot of emails about comments made in both articles, and discussion forums, about a possible reprieve for 'Angel'. A full overview of the comments can be found at IGN.com. While it would seem to indicate that the show may still be saved, I've held off on mentioning these rumors, because there is nothing 'official' to back them up. While people on the various boards may have faith in those who posted the information, I have heard nothing from any of my sources in regards to the show continuing past May. 'Angel' was not retired because it was a bad show, or because it didn't have a strong fan-base. The WB obviously took this into account when they made their decision. We should keep showing our support, and I think that 'SavingAngel.org' did a masterful job of finding ways to get the word out. Unfortunately, the ball is no longer in our court (and to be honest, it's never really been), and all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best. But I would take all of these comments about behind-the-scenes negotiations with a very large grain of salt. But this is definitely the one time, that I hope that I will be proven wrong. March 06, 2004ATS: DeKnight/Smith Post
Both Steven DeKnight and Mere Smith swung by the Bronze a few days ago and posted. Not much in the way of spoilers, except confirmation that DeKnight and Goddard will be doing episode 20. The posts are summarized at the Bronze VIP Posting Board Archive. March 04, 2004ATS: Thoughts On Guest Shots
There is a still quite a bit of speculation on who, if anyone, from the Buffyverse will swing by Los Angeles in the waning episodes of 'Angel'. Yesterday I posted the SciFi Wire article in the new section, which had the first official comments from Sarah about appearing on the show. Many others have written to let me know that Alyson will not be in England from approximately March 17th until early April. Which could point to her making a possible appearance on the show. However, this is a planned absence for her, as apparently she will be filming her NBC pilot during this time. With both Gellar and Hannigan back in Los Angeles at roughly the same time, does this mean they will make a stop by the 'Angel' sets? It's still way too early to tell. While I think that that it's still a strong possibility, I wouldn't want to consider it a given. I also would think that there may be certain other characters, who have a stronger chance of making a brief cameo near the end (Faith, Darla, or Drusilla, maybe even Holtz). Since so much of Angel's story is in the past, flashbacks seem to be a common occurrence for the series. Somehow, I think we may get a final glimpse of Angel's past history, before the show becomes just that. ATS: 'Angel' News
Two news stories that I feel merit special mention. IGN FilmForce is reporting confirmation of the SyFy Portal story, that UPN has declined an offer to pick up 'Angel' for a sixth season. Although no press release has come out for either side, I don't doubt either of these reports. I think the time is drawing close that we're going to hear the official word that it's definitely over. Pandora has also posted the cast and crew list for 'Origin' at the Mythical Boards (registration required). It confirms the appearance of Connor and Sahjahn. February 26, 2004ATS: Various News And Comments
I've got a fair bit of 'Angel' information that is too small for a single post, and with no linkage to throw in the News Section. So I'm going to stuff it all into this one post. According to various reports, it appears that the final run of episodes will be written by the following writers. - Episode 18: Drew Goddard - Episode 19: Ben Edlund - Episode 20: Steven DeKnight - Episode 21: David Fury - Episode 22: Jeff Bell For the five weeks following 'Shells', the show will be pulled from The WB's schedule. In its place, they will be running repeats of 'Smallville', chosen by the viewers. You can read about it at The WB. I know that there has been a lot of speculation about a possible return of Sarah Michelle Gellar or another star from the Buffyverse for the finale. At this time, I have heard nothing to indicate this will happen. There are a lot of roadblocks to this occurring, not the least of which is that the two strongest candidates are both overseas at the moment. However, with the twists and secretly filmed scenes that we've seen so far this season, I'm not going to put it past Joss and company to try to pull off a really big surprise to end the show. While I have not heard specifics about any one person or event, I am hearing enough to know that something is going on behind the scenes. The problem is, they know how to keep these things under wraps. The only thing that's caught them out twice this season were reviewer copies, otherwise the endings to 'Destiny' and 'You're Welcome' would have stayed secret until the wildfeed aired. Somehow, I don't expect them to make this mistake a third time. Finally, what about the future of the show? There have been many comments from the 'Wolfram and Hart Annual Revue', all of which indicate that the writers aren't hopeful that the show will be picked up elsewhere. I've received some email from people I've known over the years, which seem to back this up. I have even heard concerns that fans are spending their hard-earned money to try and save the show. Essentially, there's nothing wrong with showing your support, it does serve a purpose. But doing more than sending a few postcards or signing an online petition is perhaps too much, especially since the outcome will likely not change in any event. If I had to sum up the vibe that I'm getting, it's acceptance that the end is nigh. Which is a shame, because in my opinion, this is the finest season of the show to date, and may even be the best season of either 'Buffy' or 'Angel'. February 22, 2004ATS: Another Take On The Event
VeggieBelle has posted another take on the Wolfram and Hart Annual Revue on their LiveJournal Page. More comments from David Fury on the show's end, and the chances of it being saved. (be forewarned, it doesn't look like the chances are good at all). ATS: David Fury Comments
The annual Posting Board Party, which is retitled the Wolfram and Hart Annual Revue this year, is this weekend. David Fury was there, mingling with the fans, and had some interesting comments on this season of Angel. One of the attendees, Laurie, has been kind enough to pass along some of these comments. read more » February 21, 2004ATS: Saving Angel Campaigns
The movement to save Angel is growing, and I have to admit has more momentum than I've ever seen for any other show. Requests are still coming in via email to either link to various petitions, or information on where to send postcards, or what else fans can do to let the Networks know that the show deserves a sixth season. After a great deal of consideration, I have made the decision to acknowledge both the 'Support Angel' and 'Saving Angel' campaigns. For the duration of their campaign, to show my support, I will be replacing two of my own support banners with their banners. I will also include links to their sites on the Home Page. I realize that there are other sites, campaigns, and petitions out there. Please do not write requesting that I add or mention your site. I have thought long and hard about which sites to support. While I still feel that the chances are admittedly slim, I have received so much email on the subject, I want to provide fans of the show with the sites that I feel have the best chance of affecting the outcome. Late this week, a group of 'Buffyverse'-related sites banded together in a campaign to keep the show on the air, they are located at 'SavingAngel.com'. The site provides postcards that you can print out and send in, along with addresses to specifically target the best places to send these postcards. In addition, they are putting together a program to place ads in not only Variety, but other publications to spread the word. The sheer number of sites participating is hard to ignore, as they cover almost every aspect of 'Buffyverse'-fandom. The organizers have a proven track record, including the recent 100th episode 'Thank You' ads that appeared in 'The Hollywood Reporter'. There has also been another site, 'SupportAngel.org', which has been providing information and working towards promoting Angel since March of 2003. Because of their long-term commitment to 'Saving The Show', I feel I would be slighting them if I were to promote only the 'Saving Angel' site. They also have more addresses and ways that you can show your support. Again, I hope that you will respect and understand my reasons behind this change of heart. My only goal is to provide an outlet for the dozens of emails I receive on a daily basis, looking for suggestions on the best way to support the show. I feel that the information provided by these two sites, will go a long way to answering these questions. February 18, 2004ATS: Buffy And UPN
TV Guide Entertainment News has two quick bits on the possibility of Sarah returning for the finale, as well as 'Angel' perhaps finding a home on UPN. In other news, I'm cutting down on the number of articles that I'm posting about 'Angel' ending in the Daily News section. If there are new stories such as this, I will likely comment on them here. Otherwise, I will keep posting articles I find while surfing the web, but I'm not going out of my way to post each and every one. To be honest, it almost seems that every paper has run at least a small story on the cancellation. For a show that The WB deemed not important enough to bring back for a sixth season, I almost think it's generating more press than the end of 'Buffy'. My only guess is that the final season of 'Buffy' was inevitable, whereas 'Angel' seems to have surprised just about everyone. Finally, I'm still getting a lot of mail about petitions or addresses to write to, etc. Please use the 'Daily Rounds' linkage on the sidebar of the site (under Categories), not every site listed there has info on the campaigns, but there are several that do. |
